About

Established in 1970, The Colony is proud to be catering to the fashion requirements of three generations.

History of Colony
The history of the Colony dates back to the year 1970. The firm was first opened for business on July 16th 1970 in Downtown Edmonton, with three founding partners; Harry Gold and his two sons Phillip Gold and David Gold. Mr. Harry Gold passed away at the age of ninety two. He was active in the store well into his eighties. Over the years The Colony had expanded three times in Downtown Edmonton; doubling its size each time it expanded. In September 1981 The Colony moved to West Edmonton Mall and in 1983 it closed its store in Downtown Edmonton.

The Colony Today
Today, The Colony is one of the few original tenants in the Mall and is the oldest independent merchant in the complex. The firm has expanded twice since moving into the Mall. The Colony is acknowledged in the retail industry (by clothing manufacturers and men's wear retailers) as "The best mid priced men's clothier in the province of Alberta". Having been established in 1970 The Colony is proud to be catering to the fashion requirements of three generations.

Our Team

In addition to Phillip and David Gold, two family members have joined the firm; Stacy Gold, Phillip's daughter and Geoff Gold, David's son. They are part of The Colony team. Ron Samuels and John Nedd are an integral part of the Colony sales staff.
